The Woodlands, Houston – Porcelain Veneers for a Dramatic Smile Makeover
What Are Porcelain Veneers?Porcelain veneers are among the most advanced cosmetic dentistry treatments available. Veneers are tiny porcelain shells that are bonded to the front surfaces of natural teeth to completely conceal flaws such as chips, cracks, discoloration, crookedness, and gaps. Porcelain veneers can transform a smile in just two office visits, and they are stain-resistant. Veneers are custom-crafted to complement the unique beauty of each patient’s smile. When placed by a talented cosmetic dentist and maintained properly, porcelain veneers can provide a smile makeover that can last for many years. [ back to top ] The Placement of Porcelain VeneersPlacing traditional veneers and no-prep G. Lewis Veneers typically requires two visits to our office in The Woodlands. However, the placement of traditional porcelain veneers differs from placement of no-prep G. Lewis Veneers. For traditional porcelain veneers, during the first visit, Dr. Lewis begins by administering a local anesthesia. When it has taken effect, he then gently removes a small portion of the enamel so the teeth can accommodate the width of the veneer. Next, he makes a mold of the teeth and mouth, which he sends to a dental laboratory. There, lab technicians will use this mold to custom-craft the veneers. Finally, he will place temporary veneers, which the patient will wear until the permanent ones are ready (usually about one week). At this point, the patient will return to our office for his or her second visit to have the veneers placed. Dr. Lewis will begin this visit by administering local anesthesia. Next, he will remove the temporary veneers. He will then bond the permanent veneers to the teeth and buff them to a shine. [ back to top ] Traditional Veneers vs. G. Lewis VeneersG. Lewis Veneers are Dr. Lewis’ own brand of no-prep veneers, available only at our office in The Woodlands. These porcelain veneers are ultra-thin (about the size of a contact lens), and are bonded directly to the surface of the tooth. The natural tooth is not reduced, anesthetic is often not needed, and no temporary veneers are placed. (Learn more about the benefits of G. Lewis Veneers.) Dr. Lewis may recommend traditional veneers if the teeth are large or protrusive, or if they have dark stains that would show through the thin porcelain used in G. Lewis Veneers.
